Just wanted to post on comp.lang.fortran, but am still waiting for the
password for my google groups account.

Try LIBRARY_PATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH, also I'm wondering, doesn't your
installation include a set of crt*.o?  In that case gfortran should find them
automatically IIUC.
