cygwin support being dropped as of gcc-4.1?

As cygwin g++ build has not been supported for a long time in the 4.1
branch, and I've heard rumors there is no intention of doing so, I have
some concern about working on cygwin. I doubt there will ever be a
cygwin release without g++ support.
gcj has dropped support for splitting link commands to fit the command
buffer limit, and doing the same with gfortran would prevent it also
from running on cygwin.
I suppose the 4.0.2 branch is unlikely to accept performance patches.
Relevance of cygwin will decrease, if there is no enabling of 64-bit
build mode, so I suppose someone may think it is not worth the effort to
support it.
