Again, you can see it this way, but I don't think it is the Fink's fault if
the old "ld" (whatever you want to call it) was able to find some symbols
that the new one was unable to find (if you are interested you, can have a
look to the Fink mailing lists couple months ago).

I don't want to start another bunch of mails about the drawbacks or
benefits of Fink (I have already read enough of that), so please consider
what I wrote about nm as a personnal note (of possible interest for other
Fink users).

Don't forget that the main point is about the order of -lSystem and -lmx.
