Okay, then it doesn't seem to be related to the Cray pointer patch. 
(In fact, there aren't any Cray pointers in xplor-nih; the only new 
code it uses is the loc intrinsic.)  If you see any indication that 
loc is causing problems in xplor-nih, let me know.
