g77 testsuite (was RE: IMPLICIT CHARACTER*# causing 35 regressions in NIST testsuite)

What plans are there for the g77 testsuite under gfortran?
 - It may be possible to run it pretty much "as is" using gfortran.
 - Alternatively, quite a few of the tests could be incorporated
   into gfortran.fortran-torture.

I would be interested in contributing to either of these projects.
Thoughts?
