no recommended mpfr installation for building gfortran

I see that the messages for configure say now that gmp and mpfr must be 
installed, rather than simply saying gfortran is not supported under 
cygwin.  I tried installing both the cygwin gmp, and gmp-4.1, which 
requires about 10 instances of commenting out conflicting declarations to 
build with gcc.  Googling for mpfr produces only vague messages about some 
day it will be included in gmp.  I try to look up mpfr on the gfortran site 
and find nothing about where to get it.  On comp.lang.fortran, recently, 
several people have made posts offering zip files of collections of what 
purport to be gfortran binaries, with all directory structure removed, no 
indication of what version of gcc they go with.
