Ok, so after bumping the ulimit I was able to make some progress. Since
OpenBSD doesn't use GCC as its default compiler anymore, the support for
it has bitrotted. I guess the GCC ports package has patches that weren't
upstreamed. I posted some non-ga68 patches that let me successfully
build GCC on OpenBSD. All but one were reviewed/approved, and I pushed
them to trunk. The one that wasn't committed is pretty easy to work
around.

The workaround is disabling GCC's fixincludes. There are other configure
options I had to use to get the compiler to build/run. There are still
some test failures, but I haven't had time to dig into them yet.

The configure options I used were:

../gcc/configure \
  --disable-fixincludes \
  --disable-multilib \
  --disable-nls \
  --with-system-zlib \
  --with-as=/usr/local/bin/gas \
  --with-gnu-ld \
  --with-gnu-as \
  --enable-languages=algol68,c,c++ \
  --enable-standard-branch-protection \
  --enable-default-ssp \
  --enable-default-pie \
  --enable-host-pie \
  --enable-host-bind-now \
  --enable-wchar_t \
  --enable-threads=posix \
  --prefix=/home/pietro/gcc-test
