The last rebase you did, I did a "git pull" followed by a "git config
pull.rebase true" in the top-level directory.  Things seemed to work ok
with that and a subsequent set of make commands.

Does that make sense to you?

Sorry to ask a "dumb git" question here but my git fu is staggeringly
limited and my search fu did not provide me with any clear answers - seems
like most of the queries focused on rebasing in a branch, not in the origin.
