Mode equivalence worries

Good day,
Recently Jose has been helping me increase my understanding of "public" vs
"private" (aleph0) declarations.
One comment he made relates to mode equivalence, and this has got me
thinking...
Let's say there's a private mode Book declared in some module.
What is stopping me from reading the source for Book and then declaring my
own mode Mybook that is mode-equivalent to Book? And then using that to
gain access to things that should remain private? Or to otherwise disrupt
security?
