I think I've asked t he GDB guys before about the overhead of
printers, but I'll check with them. I don't think having extra
printers registered is a problem (GDB is usually an interactive
program, so the time it takes to find a printer is not significant on
"human scales").

There's a downside to this change as well:

Currently you can take the libstdc++-* and files
and use them with any, e.g. you could take the latest
printers from GCC trunk, and use it with an older
installed on your system.

If we make this change, that will only work if the file matches
the same configuration as the* file your program is
linked to. This isn't a serious problem, because the file
doesn't change often, and you could still take a new file.
It's something to consider though.

Good point, I will only commit the test fix then.
