Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way.

Don't worry though.  We'll get these patches into 3.3.  I don't think
there will be a problem doing that.  The key part is getting approval
for the back end change as soon as possible -- we control all the java
bits, but we don't have as much say there.  What is the status of that
patch?
