OK, point taken.
I think the gc distribution uses the term "alpha" fairly loosely, but I
agree that there may be sound psycological reasons to use a stable
version in the trunk ;-). I decided to play with 5.0a1 because it
apparantly fixes some cases where the heap would be expanded too much,
can shrink the heap (-DUSE_MUNMAP), and adds a lot of platform
support/fixes.
