HJ, I know perfectly well any number of ways to get around the problems.
But that is irrelevant; what we need is for the release to Just Work,
with the default configure, make bootstrap, make install. Anything else
means that the release is broken. I am not asking for a personal set
of hacks to fix my problems, I am doing release testing.
Enabling shared libraries is supposed to be the default, so requiring
them to be explicitly enabled is a bug.
