I am of the belief that Linus still would have written the first
version of Linux, and found a toolset and libc.a to use, whether GNU
existed, or whether it didn't exist.
I agree, but that *strengthens* RMS's point because it makes it clear
that the kernel and toolset/library are independent. So when people
chose to use the GNU toolset and library with the Linux kernel, it's
important to not forget that fact.
