- Subject: Question for your gcc FAQ: What is egcs?
Greetings--
I'm trying to find out what "egcs" means. So far, I've
learned that is is either a version of, or an offshoot of,
the gcc compiler. Or perhaps not software at all but the
name of a project that still deals with the software we
call gcc.
I had high hopes of learning a little more at your FAQ for
gcc:
http://gcc.gnu.org/faq.html
especially since the very first question there is:
What is the relationship between GCC and EGCS?
but unfortunately, the answer to that question merely
alludes to an egcs "project," begun in 1997, with no
explanation of what it is.
Perhaps the following questions should be added to the FAQ:
What is egcs?
What do the letters "e g c s" stand for?
Regards,
John Hicks
