Both of you are making assumptions which simply are not correct. Just
consider students working on theses in some student lab or network at
a university: There, you neither have root access, nor are you necessarily
an experienced GCC developer/user, but still you might need to install
an up-to-date version of GCC in your home directory for your work.
Been there, done that (and became a GCC regular because of that).
Let's not argue about this.
The bottom line is that if someone produces a patch to get this exactly
right by default, great! If not, Andreas wants to create a web page
to document it -- also great!
I'm just not convinced that we need to hold up the 3.2 release until
someone messes about with the configury to make this completely idiot
proof.
