I copied this over to the branch as well.
All maintainers, please have a look at your ports and please update
the information there. This is the new and (soon) only authoritative
installation documentation.
Please also have a look at gcc/install.texi (the documentation mostly
predating egcs and GCC 2.95) and move relevant parts from there to
gcc/doc/install.texi as well.
