In ideal situations, including most of those where a version of gcc is
already installed, building gcc from source, after reading all the
instructions (both those in the distribution and those on the gcc web
site), is no tougher than building any app.  If you are dealing with one
of the tougher varieties, and it is not covered in the target specific
instructions, you may just have to ask questions.   An example for the
usual case on some other OS may not help you much.
Even in the easy cases, like linux, many people are using pre-built
versions, but this should be covered by a combination of the
documentation of your OS and those which come with the binary
distribution.
