Is there a future for gcc-2.95.3 ? Will it leave the prerelease
state sometime?
It would be nice to get a final bugfix release for the official
compiler with the old binary format. I am bound to some 3rd party
C++ libraries, so I don't have a chance to move to 3.0 for the
near future.

I would prefer to use 2.95.3 over any other version; it runs my g77 cases faster on linux that either 2.95.2 or 2.97, and doesn't share the long-standing bugs introduced early in 2.96 and perpetuated in 2.97. However, I haven't been able to build 2.95.3 in cygwin, while 2.97 is doing well there. Besides, the g++ libraries of 2.95.3 don't appear to have solved the problem of not working in Windows with more than 4-byte alignment specified, which seems not to be a problem with 2.97. So, it seems we'll have to go with the flow.
