In addition to all the encouragement you already got, I'd like to add
an additional view: GCC is largely a volunteer's effort, and it
recently became an open project. So I think it is safe to say that
contributions by anybody working on improving the DWARF2 support won't
be rejected, if they are otherwise sound and of good quality.
My feeling is that debugging information requires quite some
expertise, beyond what's normally going on in a compiler. So the best
way to guarantee ongoing DWARF support is to educate more experts :-)
