Thanks for the input. For the STL incompatibilities, I guess achieving
binary compatibility with 1.1 would be a major project. 


For the libgcc changes, I don't understand exactly what the changes
were, and what kind of compatibility is possible. A command line flag
could activate the old code, if it is still there.
