Yes, an optional extension like graphics and general purpose
extensions and some embedded chips lacking floating point. Motorola also
has a number of extensions in their embedded chips for controlling
additional function units and ports. Also, the Altivec ISA should remain
consistent, not growing like MMX, et al. I am not even sure if Altivec is
an official optional extension to the PowerPC architecture.
