i got this same problem -- but then i tried the sept 14th snapshot
and didn't have any problems.

Yes, I got a full build of egcs-19980914 on Irix6.4 today, and left it running
testsuite on a slower machine. It's getting too embarrassing having a 16-cpu
box hang up while testsuite is running, even if it's not the fault of egcs.
It appeared to run gcc and g77 identically to egcs-19980906.
