Hello, ...
i just managed to cross compile a linux kernel with a cross egcs yesterday.
the kernel seems stable but i have not tested it very much.
i used cross binutils 2.9.1 and the latest egcs snapshot. and the glibc-pre2.1 includes and libs, but i don't know the version of it.
i did not save the output, butmake cross first halted with some message saying
that B1/xgcc or something like that. I think perhaps it tried to make a stage 2 compiler, or run some test suite, what will not work, because the result of the cross compilation don't run on the build host.
i then proceeded to make install LANGUAGES="c c++" and the cross compiler got installed.
if you are interrested in more information about it, email me privately (i am no more on this list, too much traffic) and i will run make cross again, saving the output, and posting it to interrested people.
i was not able to do this with egcs 1.0.3a it halted various times in make cross.
also it is not possible to build a cross compiler with just egcs-core. why is that ? i don't need g++ to build a linux kernel, so it should also be possible to buil
build a c only cross compiler, or at least it would be nice to say somewhere in the docs that you need to build both c and c++ to build a cross compiler.
hope this will be helpful, and just tell me if you need further testing .
Friendly,
Sven LUTHER
