MacOS support in egcs?

I've noticed lots of mpw-blah-blah files in the egcs distribution.
Is it possible to compile egcs to work under MPW? How?
If not, is there a way to configure it as a cross-compiler to generate
object files that MPW can understand? I tried powerpc-apple-macos,
but the configure script said "Configuration powerpc-apple-macos not supported"
