I successfully bootstrapped it on i586:
[eric@localhost obj]$ gcc-3.3 -v
Reading specs from /usr/local/lib/gcc-lib/i586-redhat-linux-gnu/3.3/specs
Configured with: ../configure --host=i586-redhat-linux-gnu --prefix=/usr/local
--enable-languages=c,c++,objc,f77 --enable-checking --disable-nls
