debuglocus is an experimental branch to see whether its even possible to maintain some debug information in the source locus field or not. It has not advanced past that, and even if it ever does, there are no guarantees that it will either a) work as hoped, b) preserve enough information to be useful, or c) be less complex in the end. There are a number of issues with how expand treats locus fields which I have not figured out how to address yet. I also have not worked on the branch recently, and have no immediate plans to do so.

So I'd suggest simply judging VTA on its own merits. :-)
