Here is what I tested successfully on x86_64-linux and sparc-linux (with
a small patch from Eric and --with-cpu=v8 to match what debian does:
32bits default and 64bits multilib).

I just killed my build with 2.4 and restarted it with your 2.5-clean
patch. Results for powerpc, sparc, i386, mips, and arm will be popping
out over the next 24-36 hours.
