You got it. Let's go with __COUNTER__, when it is ready.
Since it sounds like there is some real interest in the __COUNTER__
patch and -fdirectives-only is languishing at the moment, I'm going to
go ahead and submit it for approval sans directives-only integration.
Expect a gcc-patches mail later today or tomorrow.
