Re: RFA/RFC: Adding support for gmp and mpfr sources in the build tree

As a Red Hatter, I think having the ability to build GMP and MPFR
in-tree is a definite benefit to our customers, who are used to just
building and installing the tree without worrying too much about
prerequisites.

As a build maintainer, I think such support should depend on the
people putting GMP/MPFR into the source tree to modify GMP/MPFR to
work with our system, rather than complicating our system to support a
pristine GMP/MPFR. So, I don't mind a little change to support it
(checking for the dir, tweaking existing variables) but I think
specific changes (hacky --target options) should be pushed into
vendor-specific GMP/MPFR source trees if they'd add too much
complication to our toplevel files. As long as we can use the
existing logic to pass module-specific options, I'm OK with it.
