If we don't care to use static_assert inside libstdc++ (or we want to fall back to library-only solutions when we're not in C++0x mode), yes, we can simplify. I'm CC'ing libstdc++; if anyone wants to use static_assert in the library, they should speak up :)

Don't we need the corresponding pretty-printing?
