I am split on this issue. I have back ported all but about two patches to 4.1.
Severe regressions I think should go into 4.1 for sure. The items I did not
commit to 4.1 were mostly obscure legacy stuff.
Patches that fix non-compliance to f95 or breakages I think should also go to
4.1. In the case of this patch for an error message, I don't think there is
strong reason to back port it.
I don't think any of this is worth arguing over too much. Back porting is
pretty easy, so there really is no big driver not to. Its more a matter of what
you have time for.
