This is a sweeping question, as lots of issues were touched upon, some I think are clear enough to me to assert I know what the standard says. For example, upcast, I think it is clear enough for me to state what it does and to quote it and back it up.

I'm not necessarily convinced, but I've said everything interesting I have to say. I'll stop repeating myself.


You and I don't really need to argue this point; you and I actually agree on what the compiler should do, even if we don't agree as to why.
