I can't approve this patch, but if approved it would be appropriate for 
4.0 as well as mainline on account of this (it doesn't time out in 3.4).  
(I haven't filed any PRs for artificial testcases which time out or 
consume more memory or stack on one version than another and so FAIL for 
some versions on that account since inevitably some such testcases will 
sometimes just happen to require more resources with newer versions of 
GCC, but where there is a simple fix it makes sense to apply it to release 
branches as well.)
