IMHO all arguments for iberty apply here as well.

In particular with zlib I don't see the slightest maintenance problem even if
the original library starts to depart. Quite to the contrary I'm rather convinced that
zlib could very well need (for performance in particular) some modernization.
C simply doesn't look the same like in did 20 years ago.

Both have upstreams sources so it might be better to update them via that
instead of changing the sources here.
