Technically, I think this is against the rules -- but, heck, if nobody
complains, you probably don't need to worry. ;-)

(The reason I raised this issue is that this might mislead other port
maintainers.)

Yes, this is a problem.  Though, a problem that should became less
critical the more we introduce and rely on stable, well-defined
interfaces.  Hopefully.
