Thank you for your patch. It bootstrapped and regtested on powerpc-apple-darwin7.2.0; I compared it with make check results from a few days earlier and found these differences, but I don't know if this is just version skew (<: with patch, >: without patch):

I compiled my large project at its usual optimization level (-O1 -fschedule-insns2 are the main options) and there were no errors that I could see.
