Definitely.  If there were a way to separate it from GCC and have the
gcc build process just invoke the latest version, it would be best.
Meanwhile, if it looks good & works on TOT, then likely backport....

I think that if you are willing to take the heat in the event that
it is actually used on other platforms, then it is fine.  The fewer
generally applied patches, the better.  :-)
