char support that we don't have, cleans up the code base, and should be
able to make-up for any slowdown with future optimizations it enables.

Let's talk about specific example. Your current patch.


If you show this much resistance to measure slowdown
(actually, we don't know yet if there is a slowdown or not! You know more.),
how is it possible to say that it will make-up for slowdown with
future optimizations it enables? :-)
