Thank you all for covering up for me while I recovered from a lost
hard disk ;-(
Christian's patch is definitely sane, but I'm still confused as to how
I may have introduced the problem in the first place. I thought I had
used the same, gcj-recommended version of automake to generate the
Makefile.ins, and autoconf-2.13 to generate the configure scripts.
Oh, well... It was a big set of big patches. Surely mistakes were
prone to happen ;-( We should have a better way to handle this
stuff. Say, getting generated files rebuilt on CVS commit, using the
right version of the tools, or something like that...
