I've been running with the equivalent of this patch on V4.0F and V5.1 since
GCC 3.1, so I'm reasonably certain its save. I'm almost certain V3.x isn't
different in this respect either, but we don't have any V3 systems left
running for several years. Besides, testing of the underlying libtool
patch has been performed on both V4.0F and V5.1 either, so I'm going to
check this in.
