I never performed the same gutting/cleaning on configure.target and the
"bits" subdirectories on the branch that I did for the trunk, since
there's no real bug to fix.  I can do so to try and keep them more in
sync, if Mark approves.
I don't. :-)

It's just too easy to make small mistakes somewhere.
