Doesn't linking against both the shared library and the static
library make a significant assumption about the semantics of a system
link-editor when faced with duplicate symbols in shared and static
libraries? Is this safe on all systems on which GCC is trying to switch
to shared libgcc library? Is this another case of assuming SVR4 semantics
for the world?
