I am not a native speaker, but a few months ago an editor of one of my
scientific papers asked me to use the spelling "front-end"
instead. What do you think about that?
It's hyphenated when used as an adjective ("the GCC front-end interface")
and not when it's used as a noun ("the Pascal front end").
