If I had any power, I would vote that the post should not be removed.

There are a number of replies which reference the original post,
would you advocate that these should :

1. Be removed also
2. Be left referencing a post which cannot be read
3. Be edited to remove reference to your original question?

Then there is the thorny issue of replication on many servers
throughout the world. Who would ensure that all copies were removed?

If you are not in the IT field, why do you think that asking
reasonable beginners questions about gcc reflect badly upon
yourself? Especially when the request was made more than a decade
ago.

Speaking personally, I think that this revisionist approach to
history is at best misguided, and potentially dangerous.
