.in-files! what for?

Subject: .in-files! what for?

Hello, Listmembers.

Does anybody know what purpose the .in-files do serve?
I was able to find informations/explanations/tools for all other gcc-output I've seen (.map, .sym, .ii, etc.) but nowhere .in was mentioned - but they still keep appearing on my HD, so they must have some use..
