building gcc 3.0 on RedHat Linux 7.1

Subject: building gcc 3.0 on RedHat Linux 7.1

Trying to build gcc 3.0 on a Red Hat Linux 7.1 system I ran into numerous
errors of the form:

insn-flags.h:838 parse error before PARAMS.

Any idea what I did wrong?
