guessing the system

Ever since I was able to build and install gcc-2.95.2 I have a problem
when code that I am compiling using the make process is trying to guess
the host. I get errors similar to this:

checking host system type... configure: error: can not guess host type;
you must specify one

This also happens when I try to compile gcc-2.95.2 with itself.

What did I mess up when I build 2.95.2? How do I fix this?

Thanks,
Robert
