binutils for i860?

I'm attempting to build GCC-2.95.1 for the i860. Of course, this will
depend on binutils 2.9.1 for the i860. Unfortunately, the i860 is an
unknown target. This doesn't make much sense to me.... if gcc can be
built for the i860 but depends on binutils for the i860, which doesn't
exist, then....
Can someone please tell me what I'm missing here?
