Andrew,

You are correct: that was my problem.

It had occurred to me that this could be a stack space issue, so I (uselessly)
tried "ulimit -s unlimited" before posting my original message.  After reading
your comment, I did "export OMP_STACKSIZE=1G", which solved my problem.
